5 things that suggest you would be a good coder.

All in all you probably have heard about all the hype about code and learning to code. Coding or Programming is a must have skill today, that is used in every field and facet of todays society. Thus whether you are in agriculture or the medical industry, a software developer is needed. Thus enriches your current knowledgebase and skill set. Furthermore coding opens up new job opportunities with remote work, high salaries, and great flexibility. In addition the IT industry is growing at a rapid rate. In turn this is thanks to thousands of companies ‘going’ digital. Including businesses providing online services during lockdown. Thus this creates a massive and increasing demand for good coders. All in all you probably have thought about becoming a coder or switching to a career in tech. But how do you know if you would be good at coding?

Overall there is not a concrete list of ‘things’ to become a programmer. But certain aspects are true and there are a few habits that are commin in most good programmers. These include skills, and attitudes and problem solving skills. All these would make learning to code much more easy and make you become a better coder.

In turn here is the list of five qualities or characteristics that show you would be an excellent coder. In turn this answers the question How do you know when someone is a good programmer?

1. The ability to have logic and use it!

Coding is logic, at its very core that’s what coding fundamentally is, full stop. We always say if you can learn one programming language, you can learn any. The Reason for this is every language has more or less the same logic (i.e loops, if statements etc ) .The main difference is the set of rules for syntax, style, and structure (i.e have a semi colon to end off code). Thus most programming languages follow the same logic as the English language or human nature when it comes to logic,. I.e if you sick you go to the dr, else you don’t…

The ability to have and grasp logic quickly might not be a prerequest for new coders but certainly helps you to learn quicker and climb the coding ladder. Thus earning more and learning more!

2. A “Trial and Error” Coding Person

Overall the curiosity to understand a problem then try and find a formula or way to fix it. In turn this mindset is a must-have for any programmer as programming is all about problem solving. In turn we are living in the age of Google and stackoverflow and code is freely available to copy and paste. But to experiment with code and logic is what ultimately separates you from the rest! Many coders fear failure, good coders see failure as a move in the right direction. Furthermore great programmers strive to do their best at every effort. In turn a good programmer will admit where they are wrong.

In turn by having this experimental attitude, you are more likely to discover new ways of solving problems, coming up with solutions, and simplifying techniques that in turn will make your job easier. Being a good coder is making your code work more efficiently. If you can show you’re proficient in several different programming languages, you’ll be able get more senior roles and start earing the big bucks!

3. The Hunger to learn

Programming requires constant practice, you must love code. in turn eat, sleep , code. Furthermore new frameworks, technology stacks and programming languages are constantly evolving. Thus a good programmer needs to keep up to date and aware of the latest coding practices. In turn these include the latest ides and tools to ensure their code is and up-to-date, clean and efficient. As a Software Developer or codeer you want to continually upskill yourself via programming short courses, self-learning or coding bootcamps. In turn this is one of the most important of the 5 things that suggest you would be a good coder, as it has to do with your attitude!

4. Being Objective As Coder

All in all being closed off and overprotective of your code can lead to problems. In turn when you code, you actually part of a team, where you don’t just work on your code, but on other peoples code too. Thus coders need to code precisely and discard code that doesn’t serve a purpose. Coding and colleagues are there to improve your code and help each other to be the best versions of themselves. Furthermore a good programmer understands that that they have to continue to learn and grow as a developer and person.

5. A Communication Person

Say what? You thought all programmers are quiet and introvert and don’t communicate. This might be true, but good programmers can explain complex technical terms to non technical people. Coders should go out of their way to give the best possible solutions to clients problems. Coders should have certain characteristics such as an eye for the detail. In turn this certain coding practices and standards that should be followed. I.e Naming standards, structure and making applications/code run smoother or more efficiently. No to mention a good coder should have patience, as problems don’t always get solved 1,2,3. Good solutions often take time and rushing code can most often be bad code (bugs and errors). Furthermore a good coder has undivided focus, being able to focus on certain aspects of code at a time. Including documentation, planning, pseudo code and most important giving the client what he or she wants. In turn most people don’t realize the importance of being 1 of 5 things that suggest you would be a good coder.

In turn If you want to start learning how to be the best coder and begin coding practically, our coding courses and bootcamps are the best.

School of IT believes coding is practical, you learn by doing. Thus you constantly build applications, do examples and learn by doing code.
